Mathematical Analysis and Applications
The activity of the group is mainly devoted to the
Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), to
Calculus of Variations, to
Optimal Transport and Analysis in Metric Spaces.
The research focuses on fundamental theoretical questions and on PDEs and variational models arising from various applicative situations.
PDEs and variational models are indeed ubiquitous in many applications of mathematics.
Some of the current research fronts include the physics of phase transition and more generally materials science, damage and fracture theory, liquid crystals, nonlinear elasticity and plasticity.
The group benefits of an active visitors programme and contributes, together with the IMATI-CNR, to the organization of the weakly
Applied Mathematics Seminar.
