On the motive of Quot-schemes on curves.

Abstract. We study the class, in the Grothendieck ring of varieties, of Quot^n_C(E), where C is a smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field, E is a locally free coherent sheaf on C, and n is a positive integer.
We show that this class depends only on C, n and the rank of E, and moreover we compute it in terms of the symmetric products of C.
