Fibred irregular varieties of low slope

Abstract. In the first part of the talk I will recall the known results for the slope of irregular fibred surfaces given by Xiao and introduce the continuous rank of a line bundle and the higher dimensional Clifford-Severi inequalities recently obtained by Pardini, Stoppino and myself. Then I will show how to deduce higher dimensional slope inequalities and study the limit cases, extending and giving an alternative version of recent results of Hu and Zhang.
