Il gruppo di ricerca in Analisi Matematica e Applicazioni si occupa in particolare di Equazioni alle Derivate Parziali e di Calcolo delle Variazioni.
Dal punto di vista tecnico vengono studiati vari aspetti relativi alle equazioni alle derivate parziali di evoluzione: esistenza, unicita', regolarita', comportamento asintotico, attrattori etc. per sistemi di PDE non-lineari (iperboliche, paraboliche e BV) in spazi di Banach e in spazi metrici.
Nella tradizione del gruppo viene seguito un approccio interdisciplinare in cui i risultati astratti si allacciano alle loro applicazioni in un "dialogo" che coinvolge anche molte collaborazioni in ambito ingegneristico e computazionale. Tra le varie applicazioni: i probemi a frontiera libera, le transizioni di fase, la meccanica (elasticita' non-lineare, plasticita', danneggiamento e frattura) i cristalli liquidi e le membrane cellulari.
